Guided by Janna Weiss, PhD
Ethnobotanist, Mind Science Educator, Acupuncturist, Compassion & Wisdom Facilitator

At Reignite, reincarnation research isn’t limited to case archives and historical verification. It also includes the “human operating system” that shapes how memory, identity, fear, meaning, and continuity are interpreted across cultures.

Buddhist studies and mind science offer a practical lens for this work: how the mind constructs self, how perception and conditioning influence recall, and how ethical frameworks can support integration—especially for experiencers and parents navigating confusing or emotionally charged material. In this context, reincarnation (rebirth) is approached as both a research question and a lived inquiry, grounded in discernment, compassion, and psychological safety.

This domain helps translate complex experiences into clear language, reduces unnecessary fear, and supports a balanced approach: open to evidence, careful with claims, and respectful of cultural context.

About Janna Weiss

Janna Weiss practices acupuncture and teaches mind science in New York City. She holds a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin in Biological Sciences—Botany (ethnobotany).

Her work bridges contemplative education, cross-cultural understanding, and practical wellbeing. She has trained in and is accredited to facilitate the Foundation for Developing Compassion and Wisdom (FDCW) “16 Guidelines for Life” programs (Levels 1 & 2) as well as “Unlocking Your Potential.” She teaches and facilitates in English and Hebrew.

Janna’s background also includes applied research and clinical innovation, including ethnobotanical work in traditional medicine contexts, and pioneering efforts integrating acupuncture and herbal medicine into hospital psychiatry settings. (Fun fact: a plant species has been named after her: Neurolaena jannaweissana.)

How Buddhist Studies & Mind Science Inform Reincarnation Research

This area supports Reignite’s mission by strengthening the “translation layer” between experience and understanding:

  • Cross-cultural framing: helps interpret experiences through global traditions of rebirth, without forcing a single belief model or vocabulary.
  • Mind science and discernment: supports careful distinctions between memory, imagination, symbolism, trauma response, and spiritual experience—so experiencers can stay grounded while exploring meaning.
  • Ethics, compassion, and integration: emphasizes emotional safety, non-harm, and practical integration—especially for parents, families, and people encountering disruptive memories or fears.
  • Language that reaches real people: makes complex ideas accessible without oversimplifying, so newcomers can “enter the topic” without feeling overwhelmed.

In her teaching, Janna emphasizes a modern, science-friendly communication style—highlighting Buddhist mind science as compatible with contemporary learning and values education.
